Getting Your Hands Dirty!
I always believed the best way to learn something is being hands-on and getting your hands dirty! You can always study a mechanism from the outside and analyze its every function, but until you encounter it in a real time setting, it will always remain abstract and foreign!
A few years ago, when I started Dueling, I was truly a novice without any experience. I hadn't the slightest clue as to how market my product, to design a website or even how to create a graphic! I did eventually learn to do all of these things, but it wasn't without internal resistance. Believe it or not, I was first very reluctant to learn certain aspect of the business. My ego didn't allow me to learn everything that I needed to learn because I didn't find a particular component of the business interesting. I figured that I would eventually hire someone who had the necessary experience to complete the tasks, while I focused on what I liked.
That shallow idea sounded great at the time, but its application was not as great. Through experience I learned a lot of things, but one of the most important was if you give someone a task without the necessary guidelines as to how to complete it, you will find yourself disappointed more often than not! As a visionary, you need to be hands-on with every single part of your venture from the absolute get-go! You need to establish your vision through multiple mediums – from prose to graphics to photography! You indeed need to leave your personal imprint on everything in order to create a seamless collection. What you say about your creations needs to accentuate the look and feel of your brand, not hinder it. Your message needs to be clear and concise in order to capture the attention of your target market!
Only you can determine the level of success that you will attain. The only way to get there is getting your hands dirty with everything. Only when you are willing to learn everything – and I truly mean everything- will you truly grow not only as an entrepreneur, but as a person as well!
How about a Challenge Accepted T Shirt to remind you to always get your hands dirty?
